We have actually had some great night trips with spoons. You want a darker colored spoon at night. The fish look up at swimming prey and they need to see the a dark profile against any light from above even if it’s just moonlight. I designed the team old school Smoke chrome pattern for that. It’s a darker chrome. It’s on the NICHOLS website.

Were you under the impression that you had to copy every single thing in this video to catch Stripers? Simrad makes a $450 fish finder that has all 3 types of sonar and chart plotter that I use in this video. I bought a used 20’ saltwater boat for $2000 that caught tons of fish. It was 18 years old, but could still float like a new boat.

Absolutely. I know it doesn’t sound smart to have yellow on white, but I swear it’s the best palette for clarity and contrast. I use some custom pallets too. If you go to my Simrad playlist and watch the last 2 or 3 short videos you can see the pallet I built. It’s basically the same colors as this one, but the white is replaced with medium blue Let me know what you think. Thanks brother!!❤️🙏👍

We use 30lb Saiko Fluorocarbon normally But if there are Blues around I’ll throw a wire leader on. You can get away with it more since you keep the spoon moving. Just a 6” piece of 30lb wire will help a lot. 👍👍

Thanks brother!!! I use 10’ radius 5/8 mesh. Used to use larger mesh, but we were getting full Christmas trees too often. When mixed bait sizes are around 100 gill-netted baits are not good for anyone involved 😆.

I find 10ft radius to be the best for 99% of the bait we net. If you’re shorter than 5’8-ish go with 8’. Taller than 6’4-ish go with 11’ However the 10 is easy to handle in the boat has large coverage area and is the max size for beginners and it’s in the sweet spot for myself and all my guys. If I only want adult Bunker I used to use 1-1/4” square mesh (not stretch mesh). If you want to net several sizes use 5/8. A 1-1/4 net gill-nets 5-6” bunker and Shad and you need to start pinching heads off the hundred stuck baits in your Christmas tree 😂

Not really, you can tell when they move up and down some, but not the direction they are moving to with this type of sonar. Side scan shows you direction a bit more, but the new live sonar like Simrad’s Active Target shows you exactly where the fish are going.

Thanks brother! Each processor is different depending on a few things, one being wattage. Roughly 800-2000+ft You want LOW CHIRP. MEDIUM CHIRP 0-800ft (best 20ft-600ft) HIGH CHIRP 0-400ft. (Best 0-200).

Depends on the size of the boat. I was able to make a much smaller ring with a 22’ boat over 25’. Throw the wheel over 75%ish. If you turn 100% to the right the ring will start ok, but then the stern starts to go around but the bow almost stops turning and just the stern stays in the circle. So basically you will run over 1/3 of the circle you just made. With my smaller boat I used more of a square just for that reason. Hope that makes sense.

Are you talking about the free trip for you and your cousin? I’m confused how offering you a free trip is “doing you dirty” you asked for a charter. I said I don’t do charters anymore, but I offer free jump-on trips when I have room, but there are 2 conditions; you have to be ready to go with very little notice and you need to text me regularly to check availability. The last text I have was me offering you a trip on DECEMBER 1st. for you and your cousin for free. You said “you can’t go and you need more notice” then I never heard from you again. If this is what you’re referring to, I’m confused on how I did you dirty. Is this what you’re talking about? I really hope you’re joking brother.

It can get hairy sometimes dealing with centrifugal force. Sometimes you kinda get frozen in a position with g forces pulling one way you CANT PHYSICALLY TURN YOUR BODY to make the throw. 🤣

Thanks Ken! The small bait boats that net the Bunker for the shops are constantly running in circles. One guy runs the boat AND throws the net. He stands at the wheel. Turns it over hard and from right there at the helm and they throw the net. 👍👍

We have all done it brother 😁😁. We used to actually Striper fish in the same harbor that we caught bait in. Over a few hours watching, boats come in for bait all day long we got to see some crazy sh//. I remember Several guys that would be yelling and slamming everything in frustration because bait was flipping everywhere and they kept pulling up empty nets. It was usually the boats that were more of a pleasure boat. We gave bait away more than 50% of the time to the guys struggling. The funniest part was watching guys wrestle with their egos when i offered them free bait. There were countless times where we would offer bait to boats that have pulled up empty net after net, the guy throwing the net would say “no thanks, we’re good”. As they idled away the OTHER guy in the boat would speak up and say “come on man, we are gonna be here all day” then they would pretty much always turn around and take the bait. 😁😁🙏🙏Good JuJu is valuable brah!! Another good trick for water that deep is to throw 2 nets at once if possible 10-20 feet apart. 👍👍. If you have another net chucker it’s pretty effective.
